Process for making Monotypes on Board
I've started doing some monotypes on board instead of paper. I can do much larger prints on the board partly because it's hard to find paper that big but mainly because having an extra large plate would be hard to handle. I am using tracing paper as my plate. This painting has two layers. First I do the drawing and tape it to the wall. Then I tape the tracing paper to the drawing. Then I paint on the tracing paper with the relief inks. In the first layer I cover all of the plate with paint. After it's covered with paint I take it off the wall and place it on the board and rub the ink into the board. I don't use a press because I like the control I have of "Hand Pulling" my prints. After the first layer has dried I put another new piece of tracing paper on the drawing and paint the second or third layers repeating the steps above.
